Your Workshop Guide

We welcome Jeremy Moiser to our Centre, a very charismatic conversationalist with a great skill to encourage lively debate and thought provoking dilemmas and conundrums. Jeremy brings with us his experience as a Doctor of divinity, formerly lecturer in systematic theology at Oscott College, Birmingham and Head of Religious Education at Kilgraston School, Bridge of Earn. He has translated many theological and philosophical works from French, German and Italian into English, contributed twenty-five papers to scholarly international journals on theological topics, published short works on St Paul, an interlinear Syriac-English edition of St Jude’s Letter. Some of his work was the subject of a doctoral thesis by an American theological student in 1980.

Jeremy is widowed and has a daughter, he shares his time equally between France and Yorkshire in the UK, whilst in France he enjoys the peace and tranquility offered by The Old Priests house and converted Chapel which Jeremy rescued and renovated in 2007. It is at The Old Priest house he has been writing crime novels with a religious content under the pseudonym of Julius Falconer and taken his 'Inspector Wickfield' through sixteen published crime novels.

The Weekend

To continue our practice of welcoming all religions and beliefs to Grue Demoiselle, we invite you to share your views and partake in discussions related to what your religion means to you, and also to learn from others in the group. As when all groups come together the conversation and discussion takes a direction of its own and although we will have discussion points, the weekend will have a fluid approach. You will be encouraged to share your experiences of religion in your life, and you will have the opportunity to understand other religions.

Dr Jeremy Moiser will be available to share his knowledge of many different religions and help and guide the group to ensure a balanced view is achieved and everyone has the opportunity to share.

Some of the topics covered in this first weekend:

  • You will be asked to bring an object which has significance for your religion (we shall discuss these and other objects of ritual and worship).
  • You will be asked to choose a person who is important to your religion, someone whom you admire (a recent figure rather than historical).
  • We shall share different religious attitudes and approaches to life's challenges, for example, illness, the elderly, burial, life after death.
  • We hope to discuss and create an Act of Worship suitable and acceptable to all the faiths represented at the weekend, which we shall then use in our gathering on Sunday.
